ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued a verdict in the Toshakhana reference against PTI Chairman Imran Khan and declared the reference valid.

The decision maintained that Imran Khan violated Sections 137 and 173 of the Election Act and keeping this in view, the commission has declared the reference cogent.

The detailed decision said that the commission has obtained records from the Cabinet and the State Bank that showed Imran Khan deliberately concealed the facts in the years 2018-19.

“Imran Khan submitted false statements in the tax returns of 2018-19, 2019-20, and 2020-21.”

The ECP said that there have been serious consequences for misrepresentation in the annual returns and Imran Khan is disqualified under Article 63.

PTI Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan was disqualified in the Toshakhana disqualification case under Article 63.

A five-member bench of the commission headed by CEC Sikandar Sultan Raja announced the verdict.

Nationwide protests erupted in different cities of Pakistan including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Sukkur and others after the verdict was announced.
