According to reports, Netflix has added a disclaimer to The Crown to clarify that the storyline is ‘fictional.’
The plot of the famous show sparked heated debate because it allegedly blurred the lines between fact and fiction.
“Inspired by real events, this fictional dramatization tells the story of Queen Elizabeth II and the political and personal events that shaped her reign,” the streaming giant appears to have backtracked.
The previous series of the show’s trailers never included such a disclaimer.
Meanwhile, The Crown’s official Twitter account has been updated in the last month to emphasise the show’s ‘fictional’ nature.
Recently, actor Dame Judi Dence called for a disclaimer, accusing the show of being “cruelly unjust.”
“The closer the drama comes to our present times, the more freely it seems willing to blur the lines between historical accuracy and crude sensationalism,” Dench wrote.
The actor added: “No one is a greater believer in artistic freedom than I, but this cannot go unchallenged.”
