Imran Khan says will approach court to probe audio leaks

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan stated that his party will approach court regarding audio leaks and will seek the formation of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to investigate the “bugging” of the PM House and Office.

Two audio leaks supposedly involving the PTI chairman went viral on Friday. Imran Khan was allegedly heard discussing the horse trade with an aide in one of them.

The former premier’s words in the alleged recording suggested that it was captured before the vote on the No-Confidence Motion (NCM) was taken against him.

“Audio leaks are a severe breach of national security since they bring the entire security of the Prime Minister’s Office and PM House into question,” the former prime minister said on Twitter, adding that the security line at his residence was also tapped while he was the premier.

“We want to go to court to confirm the legitimacy of the leaks, and then organize a Joint Investigation Team to determine which intelligence agency is responsible for the bugging and who is leaking out the audios, many of which are edited/doctored,” he stated.

According to the PTI leader, it is a significant issue since “important security matters are and have been illegally filmed and afterwards hacked,” implying that the country’s national security has been “exposed” abroad.

The PTI chief’s claim that intelligence agencies were involved in bugging comes after the interior minister claimed unequivocally that no agency was found to be involved in the security breach.
