The Grand Theft Auto fan group has begun, based on leaks, to create a map of the upcoming GTA 6 game’s globe.

We don’t know much about the next game from official sources, but the big leak on Monday gave us our best look at the game so far, even though it wasn’t finished.

Also, different reports about the game’s setting, characters, and how it is played seem to give enough information to start the mapping process.

According to Kotaku, the most important thing is to make sure there are no leaks into the work.

Modders know that Take-Two Interactive is known for taking down anything that smells even a little bit like stealing their work.

Instead, the mapmakers use images from Google Earth to help them with their work.

Others have even used Microsoft Paint to make rough copies of leaked screenshots.

Most of this has been going on in the GTA Forums, where Monday’s leak was first posted.

But mappers got fed up with how tired the forum’s admins were, so they moved to Discord, where they could share leaked content without being stopped.

A surprising amount of progress has already been made, thanks in part to in-game coordinates that were found in leaked footage and helped mappers figure out where places are in relation to each other.

Some help by clipping off sections of the in-game mini-map from leaked footage, while others use their real-world expertise in Miami and Florida to provide context.

This project shows how excited the GTA community is for Rockstar’s new games. They will have to wait for official information about the most anticipated game in the world.
