SC respites PTI over acceptance of resignations

  • SC gives time to PTI over the matter of acceptance of resignations
  • The CJ maintained that the PTI members should take time and they must give it a second thought
  • “To give resignation is an individual act of a party member”, Justice Ayesha remarked

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday respite the Pakistan Tehreek-s-Insaf (PTI) to take advice from Imran Khan over the matter of acceptance of resignations.

The case on the plea in regards to the acceptance of the resignations of PTI members was heard in SC today and Chief Justice conducted the hearing.

The CJ maintained that the PTI members should take time and they must give it a second thought saying that the leadership should take new instructions from the chief and must do the preparations.

The apex court also suggested the political party to return to the parliament adding that the people have elected the members for five years and PTI should serve its role in the House.

“Playing role in the parliament is the actual responsibility,” CJ remarked.

While touching on the devastating floods, Chief Justice maintained that the country has been struggling through devastating conditions owing to floods and the people are in miserable condition, foreign people have been visiting Pakistan for aid and relief activities and PTI should consider the situation.

He also questioned whether PTI is aware of the cost of by-elections on 123 seats adding that Justice Athar Minallah announced the verdict after reviewing the law in depth.

On the other hand, PTI lawyer Faisal Chaudhry maintained before the court that Speaker Qasim Suri had accepted the resignations of the PTI members and once the resignations are accepted, they cannot be reconfirmed.

Justice Ayesha Malik remarked that the decision of Qasim Suri doesn’t hold the name of any member whose resignation was accepted and questioned how PTI can appear in the court as a political party.

To give resignation is an individual act of a party member, she added.

CJ while suggesting to take instructions from the party adjourned the case.
