The Canine Airport Therapy Squad, or CATS, at Denver International Airport, was recognised by Guinness World Records as the world’s largest airport therapy animal programme.
The CATS programme started in 2015 with 28 dogs from 14 breeds. There are now 84 dogs from 33 breeds and one cat in the programme.
The animals are taken to different places around the airport, where they wear plaid vests that say “pet me”
The group that keeps track of records said that the programme will be listed as the world’s largest airport therapy animal programme in the Guinness Book of World Records in 2022.
Media reported that at a ceremony on Thursday, airport CEO Phil Washington said, “We are extremely proud of our CATS program and grateful for all the volunteers who donate their time to bring joy to our passengers and employees.”
Added, “The continued growth of the program is a testament to the positive impact it has on travellers, and we look forward to welcoming even more teams as we continue to grow this beloved program.”
