Protester arrested outside Charles’ crowning ceremony after displaying anti-monarchy placard

A protester was detained today for breaching the peace ahead of Charles Windsor’s ascension announcement as King in Edinburgh – by holding aloft an anti-monarchy sign.

The 22-year-old lady was arrested outside St Giles Cathedral after brandishing a sign that read, “F*** imperialism.” Monarchy must be abolished.”

Officers emerged behind her and led her away, while the throng gathered for the royal activities applauded.

“Let her go, it’s free speech,” one man yelled.

During the national anthem, one man was heard booing, and others were heard asking for a republic.

The booing was heard for the second time when Lord Lyon King of Arms led three shouts of “hip hip” to responses of “hooray.”

Although no formal timeline for events following the Queen’s death has been released, the government has stated that a period of national mourning would be observed until the conclusion of the state funeral.

One of Charles’ first acts as monarch was to declare a national bank holiday on September 19, the day of the funeral.

Schools and certain businesses will be closed, as will postal services.

Many employees will be given the day off to attend the funeral at the discretion of their employers.
