SUKKUR: Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif along with United Nations (UN) Chief Antonio Guterres visited Sukkur where they were briefed about the flood situation and the relief activities.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah gave the briefing about the flood and said that the properties have been massively destructed in the flood-hit areas of Sindh while the death toll has crossed 500.
The PM and the UN Chief meet the victims of the flood and visited the affected areas of Sindh. The delegation will also visit the calamity-hit areas of Balochistan to assess the ongoing relief operations.
During the visit, United Nations Secretary-General said that Pakistan is currently suffering from severe problems due to climate change, and the international community should support Pakistan in this difficult time.
He expressed regret over the loss of life and property caused by the flood and said that the United Nations will provide all possible assistance to Pakistan while remaining within its resources.
He further said that measures are needed to reduce environmental pollution. On the other hand, CM Murad Ali Shah explained to the UN Chief and PM that the province received more than normal rains this monsoon which became the cause of the flood in the region.
