Ireland won the five-game Twenty20 international series against Afghanistan by a score of 3-2 after a close win in the fifth and final game, which was moved to Wednesday because of rain.

After Ireland’s goal was changed to 56 runs in seven overs, George Dockrell hit the winning run with two balls left. This gave the hosts a 3-2 lead in the five-match series.

After Andy Balbirnie, the captain of the home team, won the toss, openers Hazratullah Zazai and Rahmanullah Gurbaz were out in Mark Adair’s first over.

When Adair got rid of Ibrahim Zadran, he had a score of 3-16 and Afghanistan had scored 26 runs in three overs.

Usman Ghani, on the other hand, led a counterattack by Afghanistan after Josh Little had both Najibullah Zadran and captain Mohammad Nabi caught behind the wicket by Lorcan Tucker.

But the rain stopped Ghani’s innings after he hit 44 runs off only 40 balls, including three fours and two sixes. Afghanistan was 95-5 after 15 overs, and Ghani was still not out.

After a long delay, Ireland had to change its goal. Off-spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman had Balbirnie lbw for nine, and when he had Paul Stirling (16) caught at midwicket, Ireland was 38-2. That made it 45-3 when Tucker was out for 14 to Rashid Khan’s leg spin. But Harry Tector and Dockrell kept their cool, and Ireland won even though they were down three wickets.
