After running away from an Australian zoo for two days, a red panda was found hanging out in a fig tree in a nearby park on Sunday. He had been on the run for two days. The 7-year-old panda, whose name is Ravi, was brought to Adelaide Zoo from another zoo last week in the hopes that he would pair up with a female red panda named Mishry. But Ravi was gone by Friday. The director of the Adelaide Zoo, Phil Ainsley, told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation that zookeepers spent all of Sunday trying to get Ravi down from the fig tree by giving him some of his favorite foods, like bamboo and sweet corn, but they were unsuccessful. In the end, they shot a dart that made the dog sleepy.
“We used a couple of different dart devices, finally got a dart into him and then just had to wait about 15 minutes just for the drug to take some effect,” Ainsley said.
“Ravi’s doing really well,” Ainsley told the broadcaster. “Settling down into animal health hospital, where he’s just going to spend the next two or three days after being on the run. Just want to make sure he’s all healthy and recovered from his adventure.”
