- The US will take part in a military drill with India that will take place less than 100 kilometres (62 miles) from the disputed border between China and India.
- The focus of the drills will be on high-altitude warfare training.
- The drills are part of an annual joint exercise called “Yudh Abhyas,” which means “War Practice.”
US and India will conduct a military practise along the disputed China-India border.
A senior Indian Army commander claimed the manoeuvres would be held in mid-October at Auli, Uttarakhand, at 10,000 feet. The training will concentrate on high-altitude warfare.
About 95 kilometres separate Auli from the Line of Actual Control (LAC), a rough stretch of land that roughly marks the disputed border between India and China.
The drills are part of a joint exercise that happens once a year and is called “Yudh Abhyas,” which means “War Practice.” This exercise is being done for the 18th time this year.
Relations between India and China have been tense since June 2020, when at least 20 Indian soldiers and 4 Chinese soldiers died in a bloody fight in the Himalayas.
China is building a bridge across the Pangong Tso lake, which is close to the border. The fact that the Indian government calls this a “illegal occupation” has made things worse.
When he was in India this year, US Army General Charles Flynn, who is in charge of the Pacific region, said that China’s military buildup near the disputed border was “alarming.”
A spokesperson said, “Exercises and training are important parts of this larger effort.” “Yudh Abhyas is an example of an annual bilateral exercise that is meant to improve our ability to work together and deal with a variety of security problems in the region.”
