ISLAMABAD: PM Shehbaz Sharif Saturday paid tribute to Hazrat Umar Farooq (RA) on the anniversary of his martyrdom.
In a message, he said Hazrat Umar (RA) entered Islam with the prayer of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Hazrat Umar (RA) was a companion of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and a leader and brave commander who as head of the state established a comprehensive system of governance, he mentioned.
PM Shehbaz Sharif said Hazrat Umar (RA) was a good administrator and had the characteristics of humbleness and fear of Allah and he strictly followed the principles of Islam.

The prime minister said Hazrat Umar (RA) did great favours to the Islamic Ummah and prayed Allah Almighty to elevate the ranks of the companion of the Prophet (PBUH) and let everybody follow in his footsteps.
PM Shehbaz also wished Happy New Year 1444H to the entire nation. “I pray to Allah Almighty that the new Islamic year will prove to be a year of peace, good and prosperity for the entire Muslim Ummah including Pakistan. Let’s pledge to make the New Year a year of erasing mutual grudges, correcting our mistakes and adopting religious and political tolerance,” he tweeted.
In August 2019, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had announced public holiday on first Muharram in connection with the martyrdom of the second caliph Hazrat Umar Farooq (RA).
According to details, public holiday had been announced on martyrdom day of Umar (R.A), who was one of the most powerful and influential Muslim caliphs in the history. He had become the second caliph after the death of Hazrat Abu Bakar Siddique (R.A).
The announcement about the beginning of the Muharram, first month of Islamic calendar, would be made by Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
