PDMA issues alert about more torrential rains in parts of KP

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued an alert about more monsoon torrential rains in different parts of the province.

In a letter sent to all the deputy commissioners of the province, they have been directed to ensure precautionary measures to avert any human and property losses.

The rain can cause urban, flash and ravine flooding.

It also directed the district administrations to keep strong vigilance on the rivers and nullahs in their respective jurisdictions.

The PDMA control room is fully functional round the clock and can be contacted on 1700 in case of any emergency.

In Punjab, various cities including Lahore received intermittent rain during the last twenty-four hours.

According to the PDMA’s Monsoon Control Room, the maximum rainfall was recorded at Lahore Airport 188.9 mm, while in Sialkot 156.2 mm, Narowal 148.8 mm, Gujarat 68 mm, Kasur 93 mm, Murree 45 mm, Jhelum 40 mm, Gujranwala 21.6 mm, Rawalpindi 15.3 mm and Mandi Bahauddin 12 mm of rainfall  were recorded.

Director General PDMA Faisal Fareed told that PDMA’s Provincial Control Room and District Emergency Operation Centres were operational round the clock in the province, Radio Pakistan reported.

He said emergency centers had been established in all 36 districts while other concerned departments were ensuring drainage through heavy machinery.

On the other hand, major health crisis emerged in the calamity-hit Balochistan amid severe monsoon falls.

As per details shared by World Health Organisation (WHO), 7331 people have been affected by diarrhea and cholera amid the recent rains in the province and 11 people have succumbed to the disease.

16 districts including Zhob, Khuzdar and Loralai are affected by the epidemic. The spread resulted due to contamination in the drinking water after the flood situation in Balochistan.
