Country has sufficient stock of diesel, furnace oil, motor gasoline: finance minister

ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Miftah Ismail on Thursday said the country had sufficient stock of diesel, furnace oil and motor gasoline for two months.

Briefing media in Islamabad along with Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Miftah Ismail said in view of availability of the stock, there was no need to import those commodities, which would reduce pressure on the Pakistani rupee.

“Dollar prices are now coming under control since the government has announced that it will complete its tenure. The nation will see dividends of this thing from next week,” he said.

The finance minister also expressed the confidence that demand for dollar would be tackled by ensuring enhanced supply of dollar.

Commenting on political situation in the country, Khawaja Muhammad Asif said the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) had consolidated its position in the recent by-elections in Punjab as its vote bank and seats had increased. He said the PML-N won five seats, including the one grabbed by an independent, who was also a PML-N loyalist.

He said it should be kept in view that all the 20 constituencies, where by-elections were held, were previously won by the PTI in General Elections 2018.

Khawaja Asif said the Punjab administration led by Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz Sharif organided the most transparent elections in the recent by-polls in Punjab.

On July 16, former Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed had requested the Establishment to stay away from the Punjab by-elections and prove that it is really neutral in this scenario.

He had released an important video message on by-elections in Punjab.

“Today I want to talk to the establishment very important, as tomorrow is a very important day,” he had said.

Sheikh Rashid had asserted that he had never seen such an election in the history of Pakistan.

The nation would not tolerate any kind of fraud and bullying anymore, he had added.

If the people voted for Imran Khan, their path should not be blocked, he had demanded, adding that if its path was blocked, a fire would spread that would engulf everyone and everything.

He had observed that those who were talking about imposing Article 6 against Imran Khan, were politically blind.
