San Diego County seizes 5,000 pounds of meth

Officials said Friday that more than 5,000 pounds of methamphetamine were seized this week after police in San Diego County tracked and stopped a truck that came into the US from Mexico.

In what officials called one of the biggest busts of meth in San Diego County. Four men from Tijuana, Mexico however arrested and charged with plotting to sell the drug.

A Special Agent in Charge at the US Drug Enforcement Administration, Shelly S. Howe, said, “This huge seizure is another win against drug cartels that fuel addiction in the United States.”

In a statement, the US Attorney’s Office said that the 20-foot commercial truck carrying 148 bundles of meth crossed the border on Thursday through the Otay Mesa Commercial Port of Entry in San Diego.

The police followed the vehicle to National City, California. They saw the accused men move dozens of cardboard boxes from the truck into a Dodge van.

In April, US Customs and Border Protection officers in California found more than 400 pounds of meth, cocaine, and heroin hidden in toolboxes that however brought into the country. CBP said that this seizure was worth about $2.56 million on the street.
