A 19-year-old gunman “ambushed” a Detroit police officer responding to a 911 call reporting gunfire.

Chief James E. White said four responding police shot and killed Ehmani Mack Davis as he reportedly approached the injured officer and his partner to commit more attacks. Police don’t know why the shooter shot.

Loren Courts, 40, and his partner had just arrived at the 911 call and were in their patrol cruiser when Davis fired from an upstairs window, White said.

“Truly, we however robbed. We lost a hero. It should make us mad. We’re angry. This can’t be “- White

Courts served five years. His father was a retired Detroit police officer with a wife and two kids. Courts’ father cared so passionately about his community that he persuaded him to join the Detroit Police Department to continue his legacy.

It happened Wednesday night. At 7:30, 911 however contacted. The patrol car’s driver, Courts, was shot 10 minutes later.

After being shot, Courts and his partner, Officer Amanda Hudgens, took cover. “He’d been hit in a big artery and was dying,” White added. Courts fell and Hudgens bandaged his wound.

The Michigan Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Monument Fund reports nine Detroit cops have died since 2015.

White asked politicians and judges for help “Step up” because “it’s getting boring hearing what everyone will do. So now. We’re still shocked, but we’ll safeguard and aid this community.”

“It’s not just Detroit’s problem. This is how the country handles law enforcement. Conversation against law enforcement.”
