Afghanistan releases 935 detainees during Eid al-Adha

  • The Afghan government has freed 935 prisoners ahead of the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha.
  • The Taliban-led caretaker government’s main spokesperson tweeted that the convicts were pardoned by a proclamation issued by the top head of the Taliban-run administration.

KABUL: The Taliban-led caretaker government’s main spokesperson announced on Friday that 935 detainees had been freed by the Afghanistan government on the eve of the yearly Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha.

Zabihullah Mujahid tweeted on social media that the convicts were pardoned by a proclamation issued by Haibatullah Akhundzada, the top head of the Taliban-run administration, and in accordance with the supervision of the country’s Supreme Court.

He said that the prisoners were freed from the 34 areas of Afghanistan where their conditions were not too bad.

This year, Afghanistan celebrated Eid al-Adha on July 9-11.
