When he learned his son had been cruelly murdered, Logan Mwangi’s tortured father stated today, “every fibre in my body perished.”
The five-year-old was discovered in a river with “serious injuries” compared to those sustained in a “high velocity” automobile accident or from falling from a tremendous height.
In April, a jury found his mother Angharad Williamson, 30, his stepfather John Cole, 40, and a 14-year-old child guilty of murder.
Prior to the trio’s sentencing at Cardiff Crown Court today, Logan’s father has now opened up about his suffering.
Ben Mwangi described in an impassioned victim impact statement the horrifying moment he learned his son had died.
“On Saturday, July 31, 2021, I was at my place of employment when police officers came and informed me about Logan’s passing,” he claimed. They informed me that his body had been discovered in the early morning hours in the River Ogmore.
“I was so perplexed and couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I simply fell to the ground, hitting my head. I simply felt as though every cell in my body had perished and was unable to stop sobbing.
“I was baffled as to how my youngster could have experienced such a thing. As I waited for additional information, the remainder of the day went by quickly. It hurt so much.
“I learned that Logan’s mother had been detained on suspicion of his murder the next day. I’m really devastated that I wasn’t able to stand guard over him.”
Ben also described how Logan’s passing made his previous anxiety difficulties worse, making the last ten months “hell” for him.
The father also stops hanging out with friends or going to crowded locations since he believes they are clueless about how to interact with him.
He also tragically stated that his father had told him he had “given up and was ready to go” just months before he passed away.
Ben said, “I keep having recurring dreams and I can’t go asleep. My dreams are very vivid with Logan.
“Logan comes to see how I’m doing and to let me know that he’s fine. When he runs into my arms, I grab him tightly, but as I do, he gradually moves away from me until he is no longer in them. I sob and scream when I awaken.
‘LOVED HIM SO MUCH’
Ben paid tribute to his kid, calling him the “sweetest and most beautiful guy,” and said he would not plan to have any more children “because I don’t want something like this to ever happen to me again.”
He declared: “Without this warm grin and the joyous spirit with which he spent his life, the world is a colder and darker place.
“Nothing can ever heal the void he has left in the hearts of everyone who knew him. The wounds that have been caused cannot be healed with time.
“My son left me with great memories that will live on in my heart and spirit forever.
I must somehow live my life knowing that I will never get to watch him grow up to be the great man he would have been because I loved him so much.
Tragically, Logan sustained 56 “blunt force trauma” injuries to his head, face, body, limbs, and legs.
His horrible list of wounds included a broken shoulder, severe bleeding on his scalp and back of his head, and severe brain trauma.
Logan was so badly injured that even his mouth was damaged, yet tragically, despite having his liver and bowel shredded, he was still alive for several agonising hours.
In mismatched pyjamas, he was discovered in July of last year being pulled from the Ogmore River not far from his Bridgend, South Wales, home.
Williamson had prevented Ben from seeing Logan in April 2019, around the time her relationship with Cole began.
She claimed that the National Front-affiliated far-right monster developed an obsession with the notion that Williamson was cheating on him with Ben.
