LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hamza Shehbaz called an emergency meeting to look into the legal and constitutional issues after the announcement of the Lahore High Court (LHC) verdict – Hamza’s election as CM Punjab was declared null and void.

The sources in the know informed BOL News that senior PML-N leaders will also attend the meeting and will discuss the action plan to combat the situation that emerge after the decision of LHC.

It is pertinent to mention here that LHC on Thursday declared the election of the Punjab chief minister unconstitutional which resulted in the win of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Hamza Shehbaz.

A five-member bench gave the decision 4-1 in the favour of pleas submitted by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf lawmakers. The PTI approached the Lahore High Court against the election of Hamza Shehbaz as chief minister of Punjab in light of the opinion given by the Supreme Court that the defectors’ vote would not be counted.

The petition filed through Advocate Safdar Shaheen Pirzada and Barrister Ali Zafar said the impugned election in its entirety was a sham and a mockery.

It stated that the scope of Article 63-A of the Constitution and its applicability to a particular member’s right to cast a vote had been interpreted by the apex court on a presidential reference that the votes of the defectors could not be counted.
