The United Kingdom is going to expand the amount of warships, fighter planes, and ground soldiers that are ready to be sent to the area.
The United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defense (MOD) has announced that it would dramatically increase the number of troops that are available to contribute to NATO’s collective defence.
It is said that this would result in an increase in the number of warships, fighter planes, and ground troops that are on standby; however, the MOD has stated that it will not provide specific figures since the information is “militarily sensitive.”
Following a statement made at the NATO summit to significantly increase the size of the alliance’s fast response force from 40,000 to 300,000 military troops, the pledge comes as a direct result of that announcement. Although a portion of these troops will be sent into action, the vast majority of them will stay on standby.
Just over 1,600 British soldiers are now stationed in Estonia, marking an almost complete doubling of the size of Britain’s military presence there.
A total of one combat brigade’s worth of additional troops, or around one thousand extra soldiers, will be sent to the defence of the Baltics. The MOD, on the other hand, suggests that these extra soldiers may be kept in a state of high readiness at home.
It is very evident that the agreements being made at the NATO summit are intended to convey a particular message to Russia.
Despite the fact that the United Kingdom has pledged to make more of its soldiers, vessels, and fighter planes available, the size of the United Kingdom’s smaller armed forces will not change, nor will its obligations to other countries.
