A Pennsylvania man allegedly admitted killing his girlfriend by beating and strangling her in front of her two young girls while one of them begged him to stop. You are killing my mother, the police declared.
In connection with the death of his 31-year-old partner, Samantha Rementer, in Bucks County, Thadius McGrath, 35, was charged on Tuesday with first- and third-degree murder as well as endangering the welfare of a child.
According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by the Courier Times, McGrath acknowledged to killing Rementer in their house on June 8 “after she got me upset” and tried to kill himself afterward.
He allegedly informed police that he struck Rementer in her girls’ bedroom with a light and a black step ladder. The complaint claimed that after that, he reportedly strangled his girlfriend with the lamp cord.
Please halt. Please halt. At the moment, Rementer’s eldest daughter pleaded, “You are killing my mom.”
When McGrath’s mother called 911 after receiving a “potentially suicide” call from him, they were informed of the horrific scene.
According to the affidavit, Rementer’s older daughter unlocked the door while covered in blood. Inside the house, her younger sister was discovered in a high chair.
The elder daughter allegedly told police that McGrath killed his mother because she irritated him before unintentionally shooting himself.
McGrath was discovered by police with a gunshot wound to his face in one of the bedrooms. As of Tuesday, he was still receiving care at the Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia.
The lamp cord was still wrapped around Rementer’s neck when she was discovered dead in the bedroom, having suffered blunt force damage to her face.
According to Bucks County District Attorney Matt Weintraub, “This individual murdered Ms. Rementer in front of her children, then failed attempted to end his own life.”
“I struggle to come up with two cowardly deeds. Now that he has been caught, he will pay dearly for his misdeeds.
According to police, the little children were in the care of their maternal grandfather when their father passed away from a heart attack in February of last year.
