Yrma Lydya 21, killed by husband, 79, after asking to divorce

It is claimed that a singer who had tried to get a divorce from her elderly husband was shot and killed by him in the middle of a restaurant.

Jesus Hernandez, 79, is accused of killing Yrma Lydya, 21, last Thursday in a private area of a Japanese restaurant in Mexico City, according to the police.

A dispute broke out when the couple dined at Suntory in the Benito Juarez neighbourhood, and Hernandez is accused of shooting his young wife three times in the chest.

According to the Mexican publication Excelsior, Lydya called a law office in April to begin the divorce procedure after a succession of domestic abuse episodes.

According to reports, the folk musician also offered pictures of her wounded face as proof.

Hernandez and his bodyguard Benjamin Hernandez are said to have been apprehended while attempting to leave the restaurant in a high-end vehicle.

However, despite Jesus Hernandez apparently attempting to pay off the arresting cops to let him go, the two were detained.

According to reports, Hernandez allegedly threatened his wife numerous times with a gun in a series of violent assaults.

After her husband hit her in December 2021, Lydya also reported the incident to the police, but she later changed her mind and decided to try again.

According to Omar Garcia Harfuch, head of security for Mexico City, Hernandez met with two people at the restaurant on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. and left four hours later, according to Milenio.

Soon after his wife arrived, there is reported to have been gunfire heard throughout the establishment as the two got into an argument.

Hernandez was held by a police officer who rushed to the restaurant’s private area, a witness told Primer Impacto.

The musician, who was scheduled to play at a performance in Glendale, California on Saturday, passed only a few days before the event, according to authorities, after taking three shots to the chest.

Jesus Hernandez and Benjamin Hernandez are being kept in pretrial detention at a prison in Mexico City while officials continue their investigation after making their initial court appearance on Sunday.

Hernandez requested house confinement due to his advanced age, but the judge denied his request.
