Moro Flyboy, the race’s runaway leader, jinked in the final stride, sending jockey Simon Camacho-Benitez flying into the running rail.
As Heavenly Trump breezed past Camacho-Benitez to triumph in the silliest of circumstances, Camacho-Benitez launched off the barrier head-first and crashed with a bang on the dirt.
In response to rumours that the horse jinked, a video of the finish line went viral online.
Some people felt Camacho-Benitez shouldn’t have whipped the four-year-old horse while he was still in the clear.
And they claim that a strike to the horse’s apparent right side led him to jink left, throwing the jockey off and losing the horse’s owner the opportunity to collect the winning cheque for just over £6,500.
Others claimed that this was just standard racing, where the victor is never certain until they pass the finish line.
Fortunately, neither Moro Flyboy nor Camacho-Benitez were seriously hurt during the early-morning Saturday race at Lone Star Park in Texas, US.
Bradley White, the agent for Camacho-Benitez, stated: “He’s well, thanks. Before coming back, he had to go undergo a concussion test.”
According to some of the response to what transpired, the jockey may want to wait a time before returning to social media.

However, 5-2 Heavenly Trump was the winner of the finish, followed by 8-1 Noah and 13-8 favourite Red Bird’s Storm.
