ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took note of the abandoned and under-constructed Model Jail complex in Islamabad on Monday, and directed that the jail, which has been under construction for almost a decade, be completed in the next fiscal year, BOL News reports.

As per the details, the prime minister issued an emergency notification to complete the under-constructed jail as soon as possible. According to the notification issued, the PM urged to complete the project in the coming year. He has formed a six-member committee led by Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah to assess the jail project, and an order has been issued with the signatures of Secretary to the Prime Minister Dr Tauqeer Shah.
The jail is being constructed near the motorway at Sector H-16, where 90 acres of land is allotted for the construction. After the completion, an estimated 2,000 prisoners will be kept in the jail. The model jail will consist of a school, mosque, training centers, and sports grounds.
The secretaries of housing, planning, chief commissioner Islamabad, and chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) are also part of the committee. The jail is being constructed of the international standard. Due to the non-availability of jails in Islamabad, the prisoners are being kept at the Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi.
