The office of the U.S. Trade Representative said that Taiwan and the United States will hold trade negotiations on Monday under a recently established framework.

According to her office, Sarah Bianchi, the deputy U.S. trade representative, will meet with John Deng, the island’s chief trade negotiator, to go over a 21st-century trade strategy.

The project was revealed last month, only days after the Biden administration left the Chinese-claimed island out of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF), an Asia-focused economic strategy intended to challenge China’s expanding influence.

According to Deng, Taiwan is still hoping to eventually sign a free trade agreement with the US. Despite the fact that China is trying to isolate Taiwan from international organizations, the United States has been building up its involvement with this important semiconductor producer.
