ISLAMABAD: On June 26 for the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Foreign Office Spokesperson Asim Iftikhar Ahmad said, “Drug usage is a threat to national security and prosperity,” BOL News reports.
“ On this day, Pakistan stands against drug usage and Illicit Trafficking with the International community,” the spokesperson told the media. He mentioned that Pakistan is pure from the opium poppy, but the youth is affected by regional opium production and trade. Drugs are not only detrimental to public health but also socio-economic development.

“Illegal production and smuggling of drugs is the major problem in the neighboring country (Afghanistan),” he added, “Pakistan has been at the forefront of global, and regional efforts against drug production and smuggling, and today is an expression of our determination to build a drug-free society.”
Foreign office spokesperson Asim Iftikhar further said that youth and the next generation must be protected from drug usage, which can lead to a prosperous society.
