KARACHI: A four-day spell of monsoon rains will enter Karachi on July 1, as per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
PMD Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz said monsoon winds will enter Karachi on June 30 and rains would begin in the evening of July 1. He said the first spell of monsoon rain will span over three to four days.
He said, “This year 30 per cent more rains are expected than usual during monsoon.” He said Karachi experienced more rains in less time as it was located at the bank of sea.

The chief meteorologist predicted that more than usual rains were expected from July to August this year. He further said monsoon spans over three months, from July 1 to September 30.
On June 22, the metropolitan city had received its first spell of pre-monsoon rain that had turned the weather pleasant for the citizens who had taken a whiff of fresh air after braving the scorching weather for many days.
As the thunderstorm/ rain hit the city, worst traffic jams were reported from different parts of Karachi and four deaths were recorded.
As per reports, Nazimabad had received the highest rainfall of 38mm on June 22.
The Meteorological Department had predicted drizzle or light rain in the evening of June 23 in the city while the first spell of monsoon will enter Sindh via Tharparkar from June 30.
The weather had remained hot and humid on June 23 with air humidity around 55% in Karachi.
Earlier, the rain that hit Karachi on June 22 lasted for around an hour. Strong winds were reported on Superhighway, Shahra-e-Faisal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Saddar, Liaquatabad, II Chundrigar Road, Malir and other areas.
Soon after the downpour, several areas of Karachi were deprived of electricity and as per sources, Gulshan-e- Maymar area of the city’s power supply suspended even after 12 hours of cut.
