14 months after her husband’s passing, the widow used a frozen embryo to give birth to the child

A widow who used frozen embryos to give birth to her late husband’s kid 14 months after his passing announced she is now trying for a second child.

Scott Shellenberger, 41, died of a heart attack in February 2020, leaving behind his wife Sarah, 41.

Scott and Sarah had struggled to conceive and undergone two cycles of IVF, producing two healthy embryos that were frozen, before Scott’s tragic death.

Using one of the embryos, Sarah, a teacher from Oklahoma in the US, was able to become pregnant and give birth to son Hayes in May 2021.

Using the second and last embryo, which was made just seven days before Scott passed away on Valentine’s Day 2020, she now hopes to give him a sibling.

Sarah, who discusses her journey on Instagram (@TheWesternMomma) with her 10,000 followers, told NeedToKnow.online, “I’ve dreamed of being a parent my entire life and can’t imagine not continuing our adventure.”

“My husband and I tried our hardest to conceive since we yearned for a family more than anything.

“I’m crossing my fingers and sending up a prayer that this transfer goes well and brings home another miraculous child for our family.

We view our embryos as our children, thus I should do everything in my power to deliver our second kid.

“It would mean the world to give Hayes a sibling. I have a brother, so I am aware of how unique our bond may be. As much as I want it for myself, I want this for Hayes even more.

She added: “It’s very emotional, but also exciting. I’m so thankful to have the hope of a second living piece of my husband on the horizon and know that he’s with me as Hayes and I carry on.

“I know this is what Scott would want me to do and I firmly believe he’s doing everything he can from heaven to help make this possible.”
