Rare £2 million vintage Ferrari F40 supercar SMASHES into a barrier at the last second, scattering parts over the road

Even if you have no interest in automobiles, there are some car model names you will recognise.

One of them is the Ferrari F40, a supercar from the 1990s with an extremely restricted manufacturing run that is now valued up to £2 million.

Only 1315 F40s were ever made and some examples have fetched £2million

It was brought out by its owner just for the Kerenzerbergrennen classic automobile event in Switzerland.

The F40 joined a plethora of other stunning vintage automobiles as they wound their way over the Swiss Alps.

Sadly, the driver of the F40 loses control of the vehicle halfway around a left-hand bend, crashing into a barrier and causing significant damage to the front of the vehicle.

While the video doesn’t capture the actual collision, it does capture the motorist turning into the corner and vanishing around it before a lot of tyre squealing and a crash signal the worst.

The F40 is shown being carried into the back of a truck in the aftermath with significant front end damage.

Although the driver is said to be fine, they will need a lot of money to get the F40 back on the road.

The F40 doesn’t seem to have been moving particularly swiftly into the bend for a race-bred vehicle; no reason for the crash has been given.

However, even a minor reduction in power can imbalance the vehicle, making a spin more likely and making the car lighter at the back.

“In the section where the tragedy happened, the course is everything but hard,” said Peter Rufibach, president of the Kerenzerbergrennen, to the Swiss website 20 Min.

“The event resembles a mobile museum. Some people drive more slowly than others.”

Between 1987 and 1992, Ferrari only produced 1,315 F40s. It had a 471 horsepower, 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine.
