LG polls SIndh: CM devises security plan

Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah chaired a meeting regarding the law and order situation in the local government (LG) elections on Tuesday, Bol News reported.

CM Murad said that in the by-elections, the law and order situation suddenly turned violent and such incidents should not be happening.

He ordered the police to carve a plan to keep the peace-disturbing elements away from the polling stations.

As per details, CM Murad said that 8724 polling stations are to be set up in 14 districts of 4 divisions among them 1985 polling stations have been designated as high alert, 3448 have been labelled as sensitive and 3291 have been categorized as normal.

Whereas, 26545 Sindh Police officers will be deployed for the security of the areas.

According to the sources, CM Sindh has approved the deployment of the police force at polling stations from Training Centers, CTD, Crime Branch and SRP. CM said that he will not compromise on law and order and there will be a complete ban on arms on polling day.

CM Sindh directs Home Secretary to ban on display of weapons during local body elections under section 144. He also ordered the commissioners to take all political parties into confidence.

Regarding Load Shedding, CM Murad Ali directed the power distribution companies not to carry out power cuts on election days.

During the meeting, he also directed the installation of CCTV system on police vehicles for monitoring.

He added that local body elections are going to be held at Mirpur Khas, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sukkur and Larkana on 26 June.

Meanwhile, the meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Sohail Rajput, IG Police Ghulam Nabi Memon, Home Secretary, Commissioner Karachi, Additional IG Karachi, Commissioners from DIGs and 4 Divisions and DIGs through video link.

Notably, on Tuesday the Sindh government has imposed section 144 across the province to ensure the conduct of local government elections in a peaceful manner.
