In response to Lithuania’s prohibition on the transit of products subject to EU sanctions through Kaliningrad, the governor of Kaliningrad announced on Monday that the Russian foreign ministry will call Markus Ederer, the EU ambassador to Moscow, on Tuesday.
Invoking EU sanction regulations, Vilnius prohibited the transit of items subject to European Union sanctions across Lithuanian territory to and from the Russian exclave situated between Lithuania and Poland.
“This is, of course, a situation, that can be resolved by diplomatic means,” Anton Alikhanov, Kaliningrad’s governor, told the Russian television. “As far as I know, tomorrow Marcus Ederer, the European Union ambassador to Russia, will be summoned to the foreign ministry …. and he will be told of the appropriate conditions involved here.”
The Russian foreign ministry did not immediately acknowledge the summons in an official capacity.
