Govt launches Rs7bn fund to support innovation in various sectors

ISLAMABAD: The government on Saturday launched a seven billion rupees fund to support innovation in various sectors.

This was stated by Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal during a meeting with a delegation of Centre of Excellence Molecular Biology of Punjab University, in Islamabad.

The minister said, “Researchers and scientists are our national assets and innovation is the key to future economic success.”

He said the development budget for the Higher Education Commission had been increased by 68 per cent in the new fiscal year to promote higher education sector.

On June 12, Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan had shared a message on social networking website where he had said that in their government, the fund for tribal areas had been increased by three times to Rs131 billion.

He had said that they had tripled the funding for the tribes to Rs 131 billion and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government had budgeted only Rs110 billion for the tribal districts. He had added that “the imported government” had not kept any development funding for the Internally Displaced People (IDPs).

The former prime minister had said that the inadequate measures of the government for the tribes had showed incompetence and ill intent of “the government of crooks”.
