Preventive measures crucial to avoid mishaps during monsoon: President Alvi

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi directed to take all necessary steps to preserve monsoon rainwater adding that to save lives and property of the masses, all precautionary steps must be ensured.

Dr Arif Alvi opined that precautionary measures are crucial to adopt in order to avoid the flood-like situation in the country amid the monsoon season.

The president also directed the federal and provincial authorities to ensure the measures to prevent landslides and other mishaps during heavy rains.

He also opined that the technology to predict the weather must also be enhanced in this regard adding that the provincial and federal departments responsible for water management and flood prevention must join hands.

Notably, the Meteorological Department has issued a warning of excessive rains this monsoon and the president has released a statement in regards to the precautionary measures taken to avoid mishaps and wastage of rainwater.

Earlier, The Federal Minister for Climate Change Sherry Rehman urged the national and provincial disaster management authorities to take all preventative measures to deal with the possible catastrophic effects of the expected heavy monsoon rains this season.

As per details, high temperature and excessive rains are predicted for most parts of the country this year.

According to the 22nd Annual South Asian Climate Outlook Forum (SASCOF), most parts of the country are likely to receive extreme rainfall during the next four months of the summer monsoon (June-September).
