Pakistan one step away from exiting grey list: Hina Rabbani

  • FATF has acknowledged efforts shown by Pakistan to take exit from grey list

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar said Saturday that Financial Action Task Force (FATF) has now acknowledged with the consensus that all action plans have been largely addressed by Pakistan and no pendency of action remains on part of the country.

She was addressing a press conference here when announced the glad tiding that Pakistan is now one step away from exiting the grey list of FATF.

The minister of state said that Pakistan submitted 3 progress reports in total and completed the entire 7-point action plan a year ahead of the given time which speaks volumes about the comprehensive reforms in Pakistan.

“This was very well recognized by the plenary,” she added.

Hina Rabbani also underscored that FATF acknowledged the completion of action plans by Pakistan and fruitful discussion were held with the plenary and they by consensus admitted the efforts the country has shown.

“As a result, FATF has now authorized an onsite visit to Pakistan of its technical team. It is part of the procedure to take Pakistan out of the grey list,” she confirmed.

While touching on the good news she added that the successful completion of action plan means Pakistan is now one step away from taking an exit from the FATF grey list.

“We are closely working to arrange the visit before October 2022. During the meeting, we stressed Pakistan’s high-level political commitment to the process.”

Earlier, FATF on Friday announced that Pakistan has fulfilled all the conditions to get out of the grey list.

“Soon a FATF delegation will visit Pakistan. We will visit Pakistan to view the situation of coronavirus,” said the FATF in a press release.
It said Pakistan had successfully acted upon 34 items of the FATF. However, it has not yet announced Pakistan’s removal from the grey list, despite fulfilling all the requirements.
