The court remarked that a single bench had disposed of the plea of appointment of GB governor with its observation. The IHC said the single bench hoped that President Arif Alvi would appoint a governor on advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The court was apprised in the intra-court appeal that the process had not started yet, it said.

On April 3, the then federal minister for information and broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain had said the federal government had removed the then Punjab governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar from his post.

“The new governor of Punjab will be announced later. According to the constitution, the deputy speaker will be the acting governor (till then),” Fawad Chaudhry had written in a tweet.
