Kim Kardashian was already chastised for attending the Met Gala is one of Marilyn Monroe’s most famous gowns. Newly posted images of the Dress, taken by visual artist and museum and costume exhibit curator Chadmichael Morrisette more than a month after the event, show it has signs of damage.
On June 13, before and after photos of the late Hollywood icon’s crystal-encrusted dress, which she famously wore to sing “Happy Birthday” to President John F. Kennedy in 1962, were posted on the Instagram page of private collector the Marilyn Monroe Collection. The back clasp of the dress has puckering and torn seams in the new photos.
Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! is a popular tourist attraction in the United States. The dress was purchased for a Guinness World Record-breaking $4.8 million at a Julien’s Auction in 2016 and Kim was granted permission to borrow and wear it when she walked the red carpet with fiancé Pete Davidson at the Met Gala. It is now on display at the museum’s Hollywood branch.

Kim had trouble putting on the dress at first. “I always thought [Marilyn] was extremely curvy,” the SKIMS founder told Vogue. “I imagined I might be smaller in some places where she was bigger and bigger in places where she was smaller.” “I wanted to cry when it didn’t fit because it couldn’t be adjusted at all.”
