Foreign conspiracy probe: DG ISPR says military is ready to cooperate if commission formed

It is pertinent to mention here that PTI leaders Asad Umar and Shireen Mazari on Wednesday in Islamabad addressing a press conference had objected to the statement of DG ISPR and termed his narration an interference in political affairs.

A few hours after the press conference of the PTI leaders, the DG ISPR appeared on another private TV channel and said, “I did not give a political statement It was a clarification on behalf of services chiefs of Pakistan.”

The ISPR Director General further said that it was up to the government to take decision on the formation of judicial commission to probe into the “foreign conspiracy” narrative and the military would fully cooperate if the commission were formed.

Gen Iftikhar said former interior minister Sheikh Rashid had claimed in a show last week that no services chief, in the National Security Committee (NSC) meeting on March 31, had said that a conspiracy did not happen.

“He (Rashid) was in a way [trying] to convey that he was talking as their representative,” the military spokesperson said.

This is the reason, he explained, that the subsequent press release about the first NSC meeting had not mentioned any element of a conspiracy despite the PTI being in power at the time. “It can’t be said to be an opinion, it was a proper brief.”

“I don’t think I’ll be talking about this [whole matter] again,” he said.

Earlier on Tuesday talking to a private TV channel, Director-General (DG) Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Babar Iftikhar said that no conspiracy had been hatched against the PTI government by any foreign country.

He said that all services chiefs and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (JCSC) attended the National Security Committee meeting and they were of view that there was no foreign conspiracy against the previous government as there were no evidences in this regard.
