TEHRAN: Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said on Tuesday that Pakistan and Iran are directly affected by the situation in Afghanistan.

He was addressing a press conference during his maiden visit to the neighbouring country adding that Pakistan appreciates Iran’s hospitality and the facilitation of Pakistani pilgrims.

“We discussed additional facilities for the visiting pilgrim,” he added.

The Foreign Minister said that both the camps discussed the latest development in Afghanistan especially the dire humanitarian and economic fragility.

Bilawal Bhutto opined that Pakistan and Iran are directly affected by the conflict and instability in Afghanistan adding that Pakistan has been hosting millions of refugees for over four decades.

He underscored that Afghan people must be supported in this hour of need. “I briefed the Foreign Minister on the serious situation in the Indian Occupied Jammu Kashmir as well,” he said.

The FM said that he also discussed the rising tide of Islamophobia with his Irani counterpart. “It is high time for the international community to unite against the intolerance and Islamophobia in the world,” he added.

Notably, the foreign minister is on his maiden two-day visit to Iran following visits to many countries since he took the slot.

The FM will also meet with Iranian President Syed Ebrahim Raisi, diplomatic sources said. Furthermore, talks on the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline are likely to progress during the visit.

Not only this, issues related to Pakistan’s purchase of gas from Iran will also be discussed, Reported BOL News.
