- CJP Umar Ata Bandial heard the case of interference in high-profile cases
- SC said that it would not let anyone take advantage of the situation
- Court would keep a close watch to obstruct the interference by the institutions
ISLAMABAD: A five-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial is hearing the suo moto case of interference in high-profile cases.
At the outset of the hearing, Chief Justice said that the court would not let anyone take advantage of the situation in Pakistan adding that the parliament should legislate as per legal requirements.
He also said that the apex court would keep a close watch to obstruct the interference by the institutions. The court also remarked that it did not want to pass a ruling that can cause hurdles for the government.

Justice Munib Akhtar interrogated the reason behind the removal of names from the ECL to which he was replied by the additional attorney general that the names of the cabinet members were on the list adding that similar practices were prevalent in past as well.
The remark was taken aback and Justice Mazahar Ali was quick to ask that since it happened in the past, will it continue to be practiced in the present too.
CJ Bandial too maintained that influential persons benefited from the amendments adding that persons thinking their case were not strong then they should approach the court.
Meanwhile, the attorney general informed the apex court that the attorney general of the Pakistan Office held a meeting with the stakeholders regarding ECL.
The top court asked for the minutes of the meeting to which the attorney general said that the minutes will be presented in the court within a few days.
