ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb said on Sunday that Finance Minister of the “Tabdeeli Sarkar” had admitted that the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) had not borrowed 80 per cent, rather it had taken 76 per cent of the entire loan taken by Pakistan since its creation.
In a tweet, she said they should be asked why the country was on the brink of bankruptcy despite the then rulers had taken the record loan.
She said they should tell the nation if the loan was taken to improve the national economy or run the kitchen of Bani Gala, residence of PTI Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan.
On the other hand, Minister for Finance and Revenue Miftah Ismail Sunday said the PTI government added 79 per cent foreign debt in 45 months, the highest debt and liabilities during last 71 years of the country’s history.
In a tweet, the finance minister said “For the record: The total public debt under PTI went from Rs 24,953 billion to Rs 44,366 billion, an increase of 78 per cent”.
He said the total debt plus liabilities went from Rs 29,879 billion to Rs 53,544 billion with an increase of 79 per cent. The PTI has added 79 per cent in 3.75 years of all debt plus liabilities added in the previous 71 years, he added.
