New Delhi: Massive protest demonstrations were held in New Delhi and several other parts of India against derogatory remarks of Hindutva BJP officials on Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Muslims after Friday prayers held protests in Delhi Jamia Masjid demanding arrest of BJP spokespersons Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal. The protesters raised pro-Islam slogans. The Shahi Imam of the Jamia Masjid said that no call for protest was given by the mosque authorities.
The Delhi Police said legal action would be taken against the protesters as there was no permission for the stir at Jamia Masjid. On the other hand, protests were also held in Lucknow, Prayagraj, Deoband and Moradabad in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh over the same issue.
In Saharanpur city of Uttar Pradesh, locals staged a protest in Nawabganj area and tried to march towards the Ghantaghar after Friday prayers. The police resorted to baton-charge to disperse the crowd. The situation was tense.
