Matt James Blames The Bachelor for Turning His Relationship Into a “Circus”

  • It doesn’t appear Matt James still considers himself a member of Bachelor Nation.
  • The Bachelor during the show’s 25th season in 2021.
  • The relationship had been made into a sideshow, a complete circus.

Matt James made history to become the first Black Bachelor in history just don’t ask him about the concept now.

Matt, who became The Bachelor in 2021 during the show’s 25th season, chose Rachael Kirkconnell at the end of his season, and while the couple broke after Rachael was seen in old photos from an antebellum plantation-themed fraternity party, they have been back together for several months.

With the Rachael Ray scandal and the franchise’s reckoning with race host, Chris Harrison was fired from the show in June 2021 after backing Rachael—Matt thought it was just too much.

Matt told the Los Angeles Times, “My relationship had been turned into a spectacle, a total circus.” “Rachael and I have gone on with our lives. We’re one of the few remaining couples from that franchise. We’re doing things at our own pace for a purpose. We’re not playing games that a lot of others play only to keep ourselves in the same circle.”

Matt also had a lot of criticism during his time on the show. While he acknowledges that his casting was long overdue, he claims that it lacked context, explaining, “There was nothing to set the framework—my background, who I was, or why I’m here.”

Matt, on the other hand, suggested that it might not have made a difference.

He said, “It wasn’t the right audience.” “My message was different from what The Bachelor was attempting to spread across their franchise, which is OK. It’s my fault for being so ignorant.”

Matt believes that if the experience had been more honest, it would have brought up some things that the average Bachelor watcher would find uncomfortable.

“They should really consider not going there in the first place if they’re not willing to have that conversation,” he said. “There are aspects of being Black that non-Black people will never comprehend. It’s just too much for them to bear. However, this is my life.”

“One of the primary reasons I went on the show was to find someone who was suitable for me,” the former football star explained, “and I did that despite the fact that the show is amusing.”
