Imran says Economic Survey verifies Pakistan was on progress trajectory under PTI rule

Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan has said that the Economic Survey of Pakistan 2021-22 has proved that Pakistan under the PTI rule was making progress in every sector of the economy.

He also shared the figures of the Survey that a robust GDP growth rate of 5.97 percent was recorded, growth of agriculture is 4.40%, industrial 7.19% whereas services sectors stand at 6.19%.

He further said that the record increase in revenues was witnessed, exports stood at $32bn whereas remittances were increased historically.

He expressed these views while addressing the nation through media in Islamabad on Thursday.

He maintained that the development was also witnessed in the rural areas where the 60pc pollution of the country is living as they harvested record bumper crops, which had raised their income many folds.

Imran said that when the PTI had taken the reign of the government, the industries were closing down and facing serious crises but the PTI government had rescued it and now it registered 7.2% growth.

He rejected the claims of the imported government about the foreign debts in PTI rule, adding that debt ratio to GDP stood at 64pc as it was in the PML-N government.

He further said that World Bank and other foreign agencies had reported that employment increased in Pakistan other than in Asian countries.

The former prime minister observed that the international agencies had turned the Wapda rating to negative, endangering the ongoing construction of dams, which the PTI government had initiated for the first time. These two families have never constructed any dam in their 30 years’ rule, he added.

He lamented that even Moody’s downgraded Pakistan’s rating, adding that it may lead the country to bankruptcy.

He explained why the country suffering from power loadshedding as the incumbent government was incompetent and had no funds to supply fuels to generating companies.

The PTI chairman told the people that Pakistan was unable to produce electricity as it cannot import coal and LNG. He also claimed that the incumbent government was not giving the coal and LNG to the projects that they had set up in their previous governments.

The former prime minister said that the current power generation projects have been operating at 25% capacity. He added that they have not gone at full capacity because the country does not have the money to import the coal, adding that loadshedding in the country is also there because of this reason.

He said the PTI government had tried his best to provide maximum relief to the poor of the country whereas this imported government had increased inflation many folds, making their lives miserable.

The government had raised the prices of POL products, electricity and gas, he said, adding that when the present rulers were in opposition, they used to severely criticised the PTI government for every increase in POL products prices and now they were hiding their faces.

He asked then what was the need to conspire against the PTI government. If they were not prepared then what was the need, what was the hurry? Should have waited 1.5 years,” said the PTI chairman.

The former prime minister added that the current government was supposed to reduce inflation, reminding everyone that the during the 3.5 years of the PTI government petrol was increased by Rs55 and diesel by Rs50.

“Government increased electricity price by Rs10/unit. People will now find out what is inflation,” said Khan. He admitted that inflation was also present during PTI’s tenure but his government resisted IMF’s pressure.

“We knew IMF’s pressure would increase but we did not take pressure,” said Khan.

He said that his government had tackled the Coronavirus issue very shrewdly when the whole world was closing but the PTI government did not lockdown the country and the whole opposition was also demanding to shut down the country.

He further said that they had saved the country, people and economy.

He said that the imported government came into power not to provide relief to the people but to end their corruption cases, adding that they were abolishing the NAB and taking the full control of FIA to get NRO Two.

He said that he would soon announce the date of long march as they were waiting for the SC verdict.
