President approves national awards for slain Chinese teachers posthumously

ISLAMABAD:President Dr Arif Alvi on Thursday approved the conferment of Tamgha-i-Imtiaz on three Chinese teachers who were killed in a suicide blast took place in Karachi.

On April 26, a female suicide bomber targeted a vehicle carrying faculty members of Karachi University’s Confucius Institute, killing three Chinese nationals and their local driver.

The president approved national award for Huang Guiping, Ding Mupeng and Chen Sai.

The award has been approved in recognition of their services to strengthen Pak-China ties and improvement of bilateral relations in the fields of education and culture.

The awards have been approved under Article 259 of the Constitution and Decorations Act 1975.

China strongly condemns the suicide blast in the University of Karachi that claimed the lives of three Chinese teachers.

The spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry Hua Chunying wrote in a tweet that the country strongly condemns the terrorist activity and expresses sympathies with the victims.

However, the spokesperson underscored that nothing will undermine the China-Pakistan friendship.

“We strongly condemn the terrorist attack targeting Chinese teachers at University of Karachi and express our condolences to the victims. Nothing will undermine China-Pakistan friendship.”

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday visited the Chinese embassy here and conveyed his condolence over the death of Chinese nationals in a blast that took place in Karachi earlier in the afternoon.

The prime minister assured a swift probe into the tragedy to take the culprits to the task.

“I want to assure you on my behalf, on behalf of the Government of Pakistan and the people of Pakistan that we will hunt down the perpetrators, culprits, killers. We will not rest until they are caught and given exemplary punishment,” the prime minister said talking to Chinese media at the embassy.

Notably, in a horrific terrorist activity at University of Karachi, four people died including three Chinese teachers.

The incident was sponsored by the banned Baloch Liberation Army and the first woman bomber exploded herself in the incident.
