London commuters urged to avoid strike-hit network on Monday

London’s transport network operator has warned commuters to avoid the city on Monday, when a 24-hour strike is likely to cause extensive disruption on the city’s subway system.

While some train services are likely to continue on Monday, the bulk of stations are expected to close or operate on restricted hours, and the disruption is expected to last until Tuesday morning, according to Transport for London (TfL).

Buses and overground train services will operate normally, but may be busier than usual.

As part of a government-mandated effort to reduce operating expenses and make the service financially viable, the transportation company proposed not filling more than 500 jobs as they became vacant.

The RMT transport union is urging London’s mayor to boost taxes to help fund the city’s transportation system. It also claims there is an impending threat to its pensions.

TfL Chief Operating Officer Andy Lord said, “I’d like to apologise to London for the damage this strike will have.” “We know it will be devastating to London and the economy at a time when public transportation is critical to the capital’s revival,” says the report.
