Thursday, the first day of the celebrations, is the first time she has been seen in public. She steps out into the Buckingham Palace balcony.

Prince Charles, the Duchess of Wales, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis are among those who have joined her.

To commemorate the 96-year-old monarch’s arrival, the National Anthem was performed.

Her Majesty, dressed in green, smiled and waved to the crowds before returning to the castle.

She had been unable to attend a number of events this weekend due to chronic mobility issues, so her sudden presence will have come as a shock to many.
