dnata, a leading global air and travel services company, said that over the next two years it will invest $100 million in green operations to improve environmental efficiency across its worldwide network.
The company’s continued investments in infrastructure, equipment, and process optimization will help it meet its strategic goals of reducing its carbon footprint by 20% by 2024 and 50% by 2030.
“We’ve been making fantastic progress on decreasing our carbon footprint, minimising waste, and reducing energy and water use throughout our operations,” said Steve Allen, CEO of dnata Group. To achieve our goals and conserve the environment for current and future generations, we will boost our investments and efforts in close collaboration with our partners.”
Investing in infrastructure and equipment while prioritising carbon reduction projects
dnata has made considerable investments in new technology in recent years in order to optimise resources and increase operational efficiency throughout its operations. At its current locations in the UK, Singapore, and Ireland, it installed renewable energy features such as solar panels, heat recovery systems, and electric vehicle charging. Carbon reduction strategies will also be incorporated into the development and operation of the company’s recently announced new cargo centres in the Netherlands and Iraq.
Green choices are also a major aspect in dnata’s fleet planning. It has boosted its investments in electric and hybrid ramp, ground support (GSE), and forklift equipment, as well as reconditioned old GSE with new technology to reduce emissions and bring it up to date with current safety and quality standards. As a result, dnata became the first ground handler in the United States and the United Arab Emirates to successfully perform green aircraft turnarounds utilising only zero-emission GSE.
Analyzing consumption trends to reduce food waste
To reduce its environmental impact, dnata’s culinary staff has engaged in process optimization. Many of its airline customers have been working closely with it to analyse consumption trends and use predictive data to optimise the loading of food and beverage for in-flight catering. Food waste is reduced as a result of on-board data analysis, as is the fuel burn associated with carrying extra weight. Furthermore, dnata catering finds and supplies local goods whenever feasible to limit the number of food miles involved with menus.
dnata has also taken steps to reduce water use and recycle materials such as paper, plastic, cardboard, wood, glass, metal, and used cooking and mineral oils across all of its business areas. The corporation made a commitment earlier this year to reduce waste to landfill by 20% by 2024.

Promoting environmentally friendly travel
dnata has integrated its environmental framework throughout all of its Travel businesses, with the goal of empowering customers to make smarter travel decisions. Its business offerings include hybrid event solutions, sustainable travel policy assistance, and global-standard carbon emission monitoring and reporting.
In order to improve environmental efficiency, the dnata Travel Group in the United Kingdom has invested in green technologies and implemented new business processes. It implemented a zero-to-landfill policy to ensure that all non-recyclable waste is sent to energy recovery facilities for processing. It also eliminated single-use plastic (SUP) from its operations, reduced paper consumption by 4 million pages annually through its ‘paperless office’ initiative, and reduced paper consumption by 4 million pages annually through its ‘paperless office’ initiative. It also replaced 80% of its fleet with electric or hybrid vehicles, with the goal of operating a totally green fleet by 2024.
Making an impact by mobilising global teams
dnata’s corporate social responsibility programme, dnata4good, engages and mobilises its workers to make a positive difference. Hundreds of dnata employees from around the world came together in May to participate in the company project “dnata cleans the world.” In hundreds of nations throughout the world, dnata volunteers cleaned beaches, rivers, canals, and parks.
In 36 countries across six continents, dnata provides ground handling, cargo, transport, catering, and retail services. dnata’s customer-focused teams handled over 527,000 aircraft turns, carried 3 million tonnes of cargo, hoisted 39.9 million meals, and recorded a total transaction value (TTV) of travel services of US$ 632 million in the fiscal year 2021-22.
