Commissioner Karachi orders inspection of high-rises & plazas

KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi on Friday issued orders for inspection of high-rise buildings and shopping plazas across the metropolitan city.

The development surfaced after the fire eruption in a departmental store near Jail road on Wednesday.

The blaze erupted around 10:30 am at the store and left six fainted while one died in the incident.

The commissioner Karachi sent letters to the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), Director Civil Defense, Deputy Commissioner of all districts and officers of Cantonment Boards.

He warned the concerned authorities of any such incident in the future and ordered an immediate inspection of buildings with departmental stores and restaurants.

The commissioner also instructed the authorities to scrutinize where the warehouses are being built in the high rises and departmental stores. Not only this, the authorities will also inspect the building plan that whether it is approved as per the requirement of the warehouse.

He ordered strict actions against the violations in this regard.

Notably, the fire at the departmental store in Karachi was snuffed out after nearly 42 hours.

The fire brigade officials said that six fire brigade vehicles are still present at the spot to deal with the emergency.
