In commemoration of the Queen’s Jubilee, an 82-gun salute was fired

As part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations on Thursday, an 82-gun salute was fired in honour of the queen.

At 12:52 p.m. local time, the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery began firing the 82-gun salute; in London’s Hyde Park (7:52 a.m. ET).
A second 124-gun salute from the Tower of London followed, with an additional 42 for the city of London.

A gun salute is commonly used to commemorate exceptional occasions, such as royal coronations. The most typical salute is a 21-gun salute. When the salute is offered from a royal park or a royal fortification, such as the Tower of London; extra cannons are added, as well as additional rounds.
