- Johnny Depp has filed a defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber Heard, seeking $50 million in damages, with the actress countersuing for double that amount. Since April 11, 2022, the entire trial has been televised.
Now, on Wednesday, a jury of five men and two women concluded that Amber Heard had defamed Depp in a newspaper op-ed. The jury awarded $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive penalties to the ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean star.

Meanwhile, the jury concluded Depp made defamatory statements against his ex-wife and awarded her $2 million in compensatory damages.
She later turned to social media to express her disappointment with the decision, calling it “heartbreaking.”
“The disappointment I feel today is beyond words,” she added in a statement. “I’m heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence, and sway of my ex-husband.
“What this verdict means for other women makes me even more disappointed,” she said. “It’s a stumbling block. It undermines the notion that women’s violence should be taken seriously.”

In May 2016, Heard, who was married to Depp from 2015 until 2017, got a restraining order against him, citing domestic violence.
